Compiliation of 11/2 Threads

As things are getting a little messy, I thought it would be a good idea to compile all links here.
Specific Candidate Sign-Ups:
These should be brief, 5-7 minute presentations. Obama and McCain should be shorter, methinks, or at least focus more on minutae. For others, explain who the candidate is, etc.

Other Tasks/Committees:

Sign-Up and Discussion for Publicity

Want to make fun posters and table slips?
Want to investigate the prospects of community announcements in the Providence community?
Want to explore the underbelly of the Brown Morning Mail and the Swearer Center Bulletin?

Help publicize the event. Discussion/sign-up in the comments.

possible quick table slip I whipped up (we could make one for each candidate)

Symposium Research Topic Sign-up

Hi everyone!

So the way this works is: everyone should sign up for the candidate whom they are most interested in researching by leaving a comment for that particular blog entry. We are aiming for even distribution of the UCAAPer-to-candidate ratio. So if you see that substantially more people have signed up for, say, Ralph Nader, please consider signing up for another less-loved candidate :)

Once again, here are the issues that we should roughly be outlining (not that you are limited to discussing ONLY these topics!) --
  • Iraq/Wars
  • Education
  • Energy/environment
  • Health Care
  • Immigration

Also, PLEASE indicate if you are interested in being the point person for your candidate. That would be greatly appreciated!

Once again, please e-mail me the final result of your group's research by midnight on 10/31 (Friday) in a somewhat organized fashion so I can just insert it into the Powerpoint.

Isn't it exciting that we are creating something?

Thanks in advance for all your zeal and hard work ;)

Love, Steph

Sign-up for Ralph Nader (Independent)

"Ralph Nader is a consumer advocate, lawyer, author, and has been named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential Americans in the Twentieth Century.
For over four decades Ralph Nader has exposed problems and organized millions of citizens into more than 100 public interest groups to advocate for solutions.
His efforts have helped to create a framework of laws, regulatory agencies, and federal standards that have improved the quality of life for two generations of Americans.
His groups were instrumental in enacting the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the Safe Drinking Water Act.
In the past decade, Nader has dedicated himself to putting people back in charge of America’s democracy, launching three major presidential campaigns.
Because of Ralph Nader we drive safer cars, eat healthier food, breathe better air, drink cleaner water, and work in safer environments. "

Sign-up for Chuck Baldwin (Constitution)

"Chuck Baldwin is a citizen of the United States of America just like you and me. The difference is that he is not an elected politician offering the same old political answers. Chuck Baldwin has talked the talk and walked the walk. He doesn’t have a history of flip-flops and he does not test the wind every time he takes a position. Refreshing isn’t it? Have you ever thought what you would do if you were elected President of the United States? Chuck has done just that and he is providing the right answers to the important questions."

Sign-up for Cynthia McKinney (Green)

"Since being elected in 1992 as the first African-American Congresswoman from Georgia, Cynthia Ann McKinney has gained national and international renown as a tireless advocate for human rights, voting rights and holding government accountable. McKinney's voting record reflects her philosophy that government should serve to provide uplift to local communities and the dignity of the human spirit. This means promoting the rights of seniors, students, the disabled, minorities, veterans and workers. She is known as a passionate, intelligent, charismatic and effective member of the House of Representatives and of the Democratic Party."
